Myanmar CMs for better road, air connectivity with NE

Guwahati:The importance of improving the road network as well as developing air connectivity further in North East India has been stressed by two Myanmar chief ministers, on an official visit here.
Tha Aye, Chief Minister of Sagaing and La John Ngan Sai, Chief Minister of Kachin provinces of Myanmar, leading a Myanmar delegation, have underscored the need for improvement in the road and air transport sectors for benefit of NE as well as Myanmar.
The two chief ministers, in an interaction with Assam CM Tarun Gogoi here last evening, said both countries stood to benefit from great economic and cultural exchange.
The proximity of NE region with Myanmar, sharing geographical boundary, has made the region more vital for the neighbouring country, they added.
Mr Gogoi, welcoming the visit by the top delegation, also highlighted the importance of improving the transportation ways through road and air and said both the countries must capitalize on each other’s advantages.
The Myanmar delegation also met the top government officials and business representatives yesterday.
In an interaction programme, the delegates discussed at length the business potentials in the region and the way to harness it. They also dwelt at length on the possibilities of active cooperation in sectors such as education, power, tourism, food processing etc. for mutual benefit of the people of both the regions.
Indian Ambassador to Myanmar, Gautam Mukhopadhaya, Commissioner & Secretary of Industry and Commerce, Nilofar Alom Hazarika and Swapnanil Baruah, Commissioner of Industry and Commerce and other senior officials of Government of Assam and representatives of different business organizations like FICCI, ICC, FINER etc took part in the discussion.
