One killed, five injured in blast in Manipur
Imphal:A man was killed and five others injured in a bomb blast at the high security MG Avenue here on Monday. The bomb blasted near a godown which stored betel leaves and a nearby man was hit by the splinters of the bomb which led to his death. Five other people who were nearby were also injured. The injured were rushed to RIMS and two of them were in critical condition. The blast occurred about 200 mts from the city police station and the area is guarded by large numbers of CRPF and Manipur Police personnel.Senior police and civil officials rushed in to take stock of the situation and investigations were going on. It was not yet known who were responsible for the blast.There was chaos in the market areas as the news of the blast spread. (UNI)
Dimapur DNYO to keep vigil on anti-social activities in its area
Kohima:With the increasing crimes in and around Dimapur town, the Diphupar Naga Youth Organization (DNYO) of Dimapur town has informed that it would keep vigil within its village jurisdiction to keep a check on ‘immoral activities’ and other ‘anti-social activities’ to maintain peace and tranquility. DNYO President, Vekre Puro told media persons during a press conference on yesterday that its volunteers would be placed in various locations within its jurisdiction, from evening in the interest of Diphupar village and the Naga people in general. Those caught loitering around unnecessarily and creating nuisance in the village, would be apprehended and dealt with by the DNYO, said Puro. Prime locations,Diphupar local ground, cemetery and Chathe River. The people and various organizations of the area has appreciated the initiatives of DNYO to stop illegal and immoral activities, specially the gun toting suspected underground cadres, drug peddlers, illegal arms deals and many more criminal activities, where the Diphupar area became the main center and hoped that the decision of DNYO will able to bring security and peace for the citizens, in this part of commercial hub of Nagaland. Assam govt looks to tighten law against ponzi scheme
Guwahati:Those committing offences under the Assam Protection of Interests of Depositors (in Financial Establishments) (Amendment) Bill, 2014, will not be able to get anticipatory bail, once the state Assembly passes it. The bill, which was introduced by the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Nilamani Sen Deka in the Assembly on Monday, proposed that no court shall grant anticipatory bail to anyone committing an offence under this Act. The Bill proposed to include a new section in the Act which stated: “Notwithstanding anything contained in section 438 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, no Court shall grant anticipatory bail to any person apprehending arrest in connection with an offence under this Act”. As per the existing provisions, any offence committed under this Act is cognizable and non-bailable. The Bill also proposed to compound offences punishable under the Act “on payment of the entire amount due to the depositors with or without interest”.(PTI)

Kohima:The one-day Winter Session of Nagaland Assembly, which will be the Sixth Session of the Twelfth Nagaland Legislative Assembly, will begin here today.In a release, Nagaland Legislative Assembly special secretary A E Lotha said the Business Advisory Committee of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, under the Chairmanship of Assembly Speaker Chotisuh Sazo held a meeting on December 5 last and decided, business was taken to be hold on the one-day Session on December 16. The Session will be with Obituary References, Questions, Laying of Reports, Introduction of Government Bills, Presentation of Assembly Committee Reports, Introduction of Government Resolutions, Consideration and Passing of Government Bills, Adoption of Government Resolutions and Unfinished Businesses, if any, followed by Adjournment of the Session sine-die, Lotha said. One arrested with arms
Barpeta (Assam):One person was arrested with arms and ammunition during a joint SSB and police operation at Dahlapara on 31 National Highway of Barpeta district on Monday.The person identified as Zakir Hussain, 32, of No 2 Patkata in Kolbari village, was arrested with a Japan made .22 bore pistol and five live cartridges, police said.
