TURA: The terror that unfolded in Garo Hills in the late 1990s’ unleashed by the ANVC at the peak of militancy was recalled with a message of hope and peace by a Pastor during the disbanding ceremony at Tura Dikki-Bandi Stadium in Dakopgre, Tura, on Monday.

“Those who take up arms and distance themselves from God and church are excommunicated. They should come back, say sorry and return to the mainstream. They should struggle like others and lead a peaceful life” appealed Rev. Frithing D Sangma of Hawakhana Baptist Church.

He gave an example of the tragedy that befell many innocent people in Garo Hills due to militancy which has ravaged the region for over two decades.

“In 2002 I lost my brother-in-law to an ambush by militants. Three young children were left fatherless. Despite the pain and sorrow his widow forgave the killers and publicly announced it also,” recalled the reverend.

He was recalling the attack on former DSP Pechon A. Sangma who was killed in an ambush by ANVC militants at Chokpot in South Garo Hills.
