Agartala:Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Sunday said stringent action will be taken against persons indulging in forced religious conversion or re-conversion.
While addressing the party workers in tribal infested Manik Bhandar of Dhalai district today, Mr Sarkar said Tripura has a tradition of multi-religious coexistence and maintained harmony. “The recent insistence of Hindutva outfits on the ghar-wapsi programme clearly showed the attitude of the so called secular government at the Centre,” he said.
The Chief Minister added, “Since inception, India has adopted a tradition of co-existence of multi-religious and multi-cultural society but this is for the first time open conversion programme has been launched in the country that would create a long-term impact.
Mr Sarkar warned: “The state government shall take action if any individual or group is forcefully trying to convert or reconvert someone in Tripura.”
Ahead of four-day long 21st state conference of CPI(M) slated to be on February 25 next in Agartala, Mr Sarkar is attending all divisional committee conferences and addressing the gathering against both Congress and BJP.Election to Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) will be held in mid 2015.
CPI(M) had faced multiple challenges in this year’s election as two tribal parties INPT and IPFT were in the fray, besides BJP and Congress. (UNI)
