Malki S.C beat Pinewood Youth C.C

SHILLONG: In the First Division Shillong Cricket League 2015 organized by Shillong Cricket Association, Malki S.C defeated Pinewood Youth C.C by 3 wickets in the  at the Cricket Ground, Polo.  Pinewood Youth C.C won the toss and elected to bat first scored 186/7 in the alloted 35 overs. krishna thapa scored 42 runs off 46 balls and kenny wann  scored 33 runs off 42 balls while Montu singh had figures of 7 overs 31 runs 3 wkts and Sanjay Lyngdoh with 7 overs 30 runs 2 wkts for Malki SC.  In reply,Malki S.C  scored 189/7 in 33.4 overs. krishna chettri scored 57 runs off 62 balls and Suraj mahato scored 42 runs off 59 balls while Pritam singh with 5.4 overs 37 runs 2 wkts and Arbind singh 7 overs 34 runs 1 wkt were successful bowlers for Pinewood Youth.  On next match  Megha CC will face Lumdiengjri SCC.

Russia’s Popov Ivan wins Chennai Open Chess title

Chennai: Top seed Grandmaster Popov Ivan of Russia clinched the seventh Chennai International Open Grandmaster Chess title via super tie-breaker after eight players ended with 7.5 points each, here on Tuesday. For the first time in the history of Chennai Open, there was an eight way tie and it was resolved on quotient. Sharing the top spot with Popov were Dzhumaev Marat (Uzbekistan), Mozharov Mikhail (Russia), Ramnath Bhuvanesh R, Swapnil S Dhopade, Ravichandran Siddharth (all India), Gasanov Eldar (Ukraine), Nguyen Duc Hoa (Vietnam), all at 7.5 points.  Champion Popov Ivan was awarded the cash purse of Rs. 200000, while Runner-up second placed Uzbek GM Dzhumaev Marat got Rs 150000. Third placed GM Mozharov Mikhail (Russia) secured a cash award of Rs. 115000. (PTI)
