PHC functioning without doctor since May ’14

JOWAI: The Public Health Centre at Shangpung has been functioning without a doctor since May last causing numerous hardships to the people of the area.
The doctor in charge of the PHC left for further studies last year and the State health department is yet to appoint a replacement.
The village dorbar also brought the matter to the notice of the District Health and Medical Officer, West Jaintia Hills, but to no avail.
“It’s useless to have a PHC in the area without having a doctor to run it,” said one of the village residents.
Recently, during the week-long Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) camp held at the village, the Dorbar Shnong of Shangpung Mission requested the DM & HO to appoint a new Doctor at the health centre.
A Senior Doctor, N Sutnga who represented the DM&HO office that the District Health Department has already written to the government to appoint a new doctor at the PHC.
Meanwhile, the Dorbar Shnong also demanded the up-gradation of the PHC to a Community Health Centre.
