Injured undertrial shot dead by gunmen on way to hospital

Mathura:An undertrial in Mathura jail, who was seriously injured in a firing incident believed to be a fallout of gang war, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen while being taken to a hospital in Agra. Inmate Rajesh Tota was being shifted to S N Medical College in Agra for treatment from Mathura jail late on Saturday night when the firing took place, Mathura District Magistrate, Rajesh Kumar said, adding that he has ordered a magisterial inquiry in the incident. The assailants stopped the ambulance on Agra-Mathura highway and pleaded that they be allowed to see Tota as they were his family members, police said. The assailants then opened fire on Tota, whose vehicle was being escorted with police vans, leaving him dead on the spot. A 24-year-old medical assistant received a bullet injury on arm and saved himself by hiding underneath the seat of the ambulance, police said. A policeman escaped from the spot after receiving minor injuries and informed authorities about the incident this morning, they said. On Saturday, one undertrial was shot dead, while Tota and Rajkumar Sharma suffered bullet injuries inside Mathura jail in a firing incident.(PTI)

Delhi Police constable shoots self

New Delh:A 26-year-old Delhi Police constable Sunday shot himself with his service pistol and is battling for his life, police said. Vipin Tomar, posted at Barakhamba police station in the heart of the national capital, fired at himself around 8.00 a.m. on Sunday, a few hours after issuing his service pistol from the police station. The incident took place inside a police booth near Minto bridge, off the commercial district of connaught Place. “He was rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in a critical condition,” a police officer said.  The officer said Tomar hails from Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar area and was to get married Feb 10. Tomar joined Delhi Police in 2010 and was deployed as a constable in Barakhamba police station for the past three years. Police said they were probing what caused Tomar to shoot at himself. No suicide note was recovered from his possession.”We have informed family members of Vipin Tomar. After their arrival, we can know if he was facing any family problem or there was any other issue,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Singh told IANS.(IANS)

One dead, four injured in house fire in Rajasthan

Jaipur:A 45-year-old woman died and four others were injured when a fire broke out at a thatched house in Bera village of Sri Ganganagar on Sunday, police said. The deceased has been identified as Urmila, they said. The other four injured include Urmila’s three children Priyanka, Devilal, Raj and one Mahendra Kumar, police said. They all were rushed to a government hospital in a serious condition, they said. The incident happened during the wee hours of the morning when Urmila was sleeping with her family in her house at 23 BB-Bera village when the fire broke out, they said. A case under section 302 IPC (punishment for murder) has been registered on the basis of complaint filed by Urmila’s family against Mahendra, who is also believed to be Priyanka’s boyfriend, police said. Although, it is yet to be investigated that whether the accused, who was also injured in the fire, allegedly set the house on fire by spraying fuel, they added.(PTI)

Girl harassed by doctor inside clinic in Meerut

Meerut:A 22-year-old girl was allegedly harassed by a doctor inside his clinic situated at Baghpat Road here, police said on Sunday. According to police, the girl and her aunt visited Arpit Tyagi’s clinic under TP Nagar police station in Meerut on Saturday as she complained wrist pain. Tyagi took the victim in his clinic’s cabin for a checkup related to physiotherapy and allegedly harassed her, police said. The B.Com final year student immediately came out of the room and divulged the incident to her aunt, following which her family members along with locals ransacked the clinic and thrashed the accused, they said. However, Tyagi managed to flee from the spot, the police said. SSP Omkar Singh said a case was on Sunday registered against Tyagi under relevant sections of the IPC, adding that efforts are on to nab him. (PTI)

Five injured in acid attack by a woman

Madhepura (Bihar): Five persons, including a minor, on Sunday sustained burn injuries when a woman threw acid on them in Madhepura police station area in the district. The culprit, Prabha Shah, threw acid on her neighbour Janardan Paswan and his three family members following a quarrel, police said. An eight-year-old child of another family who was present nearby also sustained burn injuries in the acid attack, they said. The injured were admitted to the Sadar hospital on Sunday. (PTI)
