SHILLONG: On the occasion of National Road safety Week 2015, a traffic awareness programme, a part of ‘Safe-Secure-Shillong’ project, was organized on Tuesday at Community Hall, Umlyngka, Shillong, by the District Police in collaboration with Rani Motors Shillong, Umlyngka Dorbar Shnong and East Khasi Hill Taxi Association.
Ian Swer, DSP (City), Shillong welcomed all the members and the people attending the awareness programme and gave a brief introduction and importance of the Road Safety Week.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang made a PowerPoint presentation on traffic awareness which incorporated traffic rules and fine imposed on violation, drunken driving and photo clippings relating to traffic.
He gave an overview of the hierarchy and functioning of the traffic branch in the district and various traffic branches in Shillong.
Kharkrang stressed on the need for cooperation between police and drivers to regulate traffic rules and also spoke on the use of technology like mobiles, internet etc., to communicate with the Traffic Police Department and to know latest traffic rules and laws through the district police website shillongpolice.gov.in.
A lucky draw competition was also held among all the participants in which a local taxi driver was awarded a mobile phone sponsored by Rani Motors.
