SHILLONG: The Division Bench of the  High Court of Meghalaya has deferred the passing of judgement on the appeal filed by KHADC against its earlier order stripping the Rangbah Shnong of powers to run “parallel Government”.
The order, which was passed in December last, had questioned the role of the Rangbah Shnong even as barred all the headmen from issuing of the No Objection Certificate.
The next hearing of the case will be held in four weeks time, sources said on Tuesday
During the hearing held on Tuesday, the court said that the United Khasi-Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (Appointment and Succession of Chiefs and Headmen) Act, 1959 is silent on the powers and functions of the Rangbah Shnong.
The court also directed the KHADC to submit relevant documents concerning the customary laws before the next hearing to substantiate that the Rangbah Shnong has been carrying their function as per the prevailing traditional practices and customs.
