SHILLONG: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of officer-in-charge of  Patharkhmah police outpost  P J Marbaniang  is likely to exhume his body as part of the investigation.
An official source said on Friday that besides exhuming the body, the police will also send the materials available related to the case for scientific examination.
The SIT has already started its investigation.  This case is now investigated under the supervision of SP (Shillong City) Vivek Syiem and  IGP H Marbaniang.
There were discrepancies in medical examination and the post-mortem report of Marbaniang  on the nature of wounds on the body of the victim and the timing of his death.
While the police initially termed the death as suicide, they were compelled to register it as a murder case after analyzing the incident.
Meanwhile, the KSU’s Nongthymmai circle has demanded a CBI probe into the matter as it feels that the SIT would not be able to bring out the truth.
