Appointment of NEHU Vice-Chancellor

SHILLONG: After scrapping the names suggested by the previous search committee for the appointment of a full-fledged Vice-Chancellor of NEHU, the Human  Resources Development  (HRD) ministry has now asked NEHU to send  a fresh set of names for  consideration.
The appointment of a full-fledged Vice Chancellor has been pending for almost two years.
Acting NEHU Vice Chancellor P Shukla said on Sunday that the  HRD ministry  recently conveyed to NEHU Registrar  that the three names sent earlier for the consideration of the Visitor of the University  was rejected.
“We need to start the process all over again, so fresh names will be suggested and the Centre wants to fast track the appointment of a new VC ,” Shukla said.
A new search committee will be formed to recommend the names for the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor.
While the Chairman of the Search Committee will be appointed by the Visitor of  the University who is the President of India, two other members will be suggested by the Executive Council of NEHU.
After the Search Committee finalizes names, the shortlisted three names will be sent to the Visitor for the appointment of the new Vice Chancellor.
It is yet to be known what are  the reasons for calling fresh names for the appointment of a full- fledged Vice Chancellor.
Sources, however, said that with the change of Government at the Centre, the NDA  perhaps wants to have a fresh look at the appointment process.
