Plan to decongest fish market with funds from National Fisheries Devp Board
SHILLONG: The KHADC market committee on Tuesday made it clear that porters operating at Iewduh market will have to wear uniforms provided to them.
“We will not allow any porter to operate without his uniform,” Executive Member (EM) in charge Market, Donkupar Sumer, said while speaking at a meeting attended by the porters operating at Iewduh which was held at the Thana of the Hima Syiem Mylliem here.
Sumer also warned of stringent action against porters who do not wear uniforms.
“We urge the 200 plus porters who have been issued uniforms to respect the decision of the market committee,” the EM said, while calling upon the shopkeepers not to encourage or entertain any porter who are without their uniforms.
It may be reminded that the porters had decided not to wear the uniforms citing the high cost of the uniforms which are priced at Rs.500.
However, the KHADC market committee has decided to allow the porters to pay the cost of the uniform in three to four installments.
The KHADC market committee, meanwhile, informed that the Council has held discussions with the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) and has prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to ease the congestion in the fish market at Iewduh.
“We are planning to revamp the whole fish market through the project to be funded by the NFDB,” Sumer said while adding that the Council has already prepared the DPR as per the direction of the NFDB.
Expected to cost Rs.4 crore, the project will be sanctioned within September this year, the KHADC EM in charge Market said.
He also informed that the KHADC has requested the Hima Mylliem to provide alternative space for the fish sellers.
