C&RD dept organises workshop on sustainable rural housing technologies

Shillong: Community and Rural Development Minister Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday inaugurated a two-day workshop on sustainable rural housing technologies at State Convention Centre, here.
The programme is being organized by the Community and Rural Development Department in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Rural Development and the United Nations Development Programme.
In his speech Tynsong urged upon the Ministry of Rural Development to take into consideration the different topographical situation of the State while designing rural housing.
He also highlighted on the importance of rural housing technologies and to emerge with resolutions for the overall improvement and development of rural areas.
Joint Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, R. Sadhanandan, while sharing insights of rural housing technology, said that the scheme Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY) is meant to reduce the shortage of housing among rural poor.
Sadhanandan called upon the representatives of the department to document the traditional and modern technologies and recommend cost effective technologies and adequate sanitary facilities for rural housing.
