Language panel to meet on Feb 25

SHILLONG: The Government-constituted committee to pursue the inclusion of the Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution will meet on February 25 to discuss the recommendations of a special committee which was formed to give views on the matter.
Sources on Saturday said that the Chairman of the committee had formed a special committee and the committee has submitted its recommendations which would be discussed in the meeting.
According to a notification issued on November 28, MW Nongbri, Director, Art and Culture Department, was named as the member-secretary of the committee.
Other members of the committee are Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, Paul Lyngdoh,MLA (UDP), P.N. Syiem, MLA (Cong) Witting Mawsor, MLA (HSPDP), PW. Ingty, Principal Secretary in-charge Art and Culture, Dr. Sylvanus Lamare from the Sahitya Akademi, S. Dkhar, HoD, Khasi Dept., NEHU, MBOSE Executive Chairman E.P. Kharbhih, former member of Sahitya Akademi S. Quotient Sumer, Law Secretary L.M. Sangma, and BR Kharlukhi, ex-MP.
