Man, girlfriend die after stabbing each other

Patna: A man stabbed a married woman in a busy market area here following which the woman, who was his girlfriend, snatched the knife from him and stabbed him back. Both have died, police said on Saturday. Chanda Devi, mother of two children, was in her early 30s. She died because of her injuries on Saturday, a day after she was stabbed by Dheeraj Kumar, 25, who was unmarried. He died of his injuries late on Friday. After battling for life for more than 10 hours, the woman died at the Patna Medical College and Hospital where she was admitted for treatment, Deputy Superintendent of Police (town) Vivekanand said. “Dheeraj Kumar along with the woman fell to the ground and both were rushed to the hospital where he died during treatment,” he said. Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Jitendra Rana said that a preliminary probe suggests the shocking incident was related to an affair between them. Police said Dheeraj Kumar, who used to work as a salesman in a garment shop, stabbed Chanda Devi as he was angry that she was going to have an affair with another man despite her assurances that she won’t cheat on him. Police have recovered the knife as well as their mobile phones from the site of the incident. (IANS)

2 Lashkar-e-Taiba commanders shot dead in encounter in J&K

Srinagar: Two commanders of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were gunned down on Saturday in an encounter with security forces in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, army said. Numan and Abu Saad, both foreign nationals, were killed in a gunfight in Thak-Gund village of Sopore, an army spokesman said. He said that based on input about the presence of foreign militants in the village, a joint operation was launched by the army and police to flush out the militants. “While the cordon was being readjusted around the suspected house, the security forces received heavy automatic fire and a heavy gunfight ensued. “Without causing any collateral damage, the troops neutralised the two foreign terrorists,” the spokesman said. Two AK-47 rifles, seven magazines, 134 rounds of bullet, one radio set, one GPS device and a large quantity of war-like store were recovered from the possession of the slain militants. (PTI)

Woman hanged to death for not giving dowry

Banka: A woman was allegedly hanged to death by her in-laws as she was unable to meet their dowry demand, police on Saturday said. The incident happened in Basti village under Belhar police station area late Friday night. Police said that Manoj Singh was married two years ago to Rajnandani Devi, a resident of Munger district. Since her marriage Rajnandani was constantly oppressed by her in-laws for dowry. Last night she was severely beaten up and then hanged to death by her in-laws, police added. The deceased woman’s family has brought charges of dowry death against the groom’s family. Police are investigating the case. (UNI)
