SHILLONG: Allegations of beneficiaries not getting wheat from fair price shops have come to the fore in the city.
A particular fair price shop at Kynjat Phutbol near Madan Laban area of the city is allegedly not supplying wheat to the ration card beneficiaries.
Though rice and sugar is supplied by this fair price shop but beneficiaries are not getting wheat, the allegations claimed.
According to these beneficiaries, the fair price shop dealer claimed that wheat was not supplied by the State government.
Ironically, ration card beneficiaries in other suburbs of Laban are getting wheat through their ration cards whereas the beneficiaries in Kynjat Phutbol shop were being denied the same, some beneficiaries claimed.
The beneficiaries further claimed that when they enquired from the fair price shop dealer about the non-supply of wheat, a lady from the shop told them that since wheat was not a primary diet of the indigenous people so there was no supply.
While ridiculing the version of the fair price shop, the beneficiaries asserted that all customers of the shop were not indigenous people and urged the district administration to initiate action against the fair price shop.
The beneficiaries, while demanding action, also claimed that they have not been getting wheat for months now and alleged that the wheat was being sold in the black market.
