SHILLONG: While most roads in Shillong are narrow, the State Government wants to ensure that roads in the upcoming New Shillong Township are far broader and have wide dividers with enough space for pedestrians.
Speaking to media persons here after a review meeting, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said that the roads connecting New Shillong Township should be 32 metres broad.
Stating that the matter was discussed in the previous meetings, Sangma said that the State Government has already approved the alignment of the road from Nongmynsong to New Shillong Township. Reacting to a query about the land acquisition hurdles in Shillong, the Chief Minister said that the Government would act according to the law while acquiring land for the proposed roads.  The review meeting also discussed other infrastructure requirements of the city.
