STA sans full time secy

SHILLONG: The State Transport Authority (STA) under the Meghalaya Transport department is functioning without a full time secretary.
According to sources, that the State Government has not appointed a full time secretary of the STA for almost three months after the previous secretary retired from service on December 23 last year. The STA office is currently located at Sawlad-Demthring, Nongthymmai.
Sources said that since the STA did not have a full time secretary, the people are suffering especially those owning commercial vehicle as various permits including permit for tourist vehicles should be signed by the secretary of RTA.
The vehicle owners had lodged complaints that they were facing difficulties and had to pay unnecessary fine on the road since their vehicles were plying without permit as they had submitted documents to STA for renewal, sources added.
