Headmaster suspended for suppressing student’s pregnancy
Koraput:A headmaster of government-run school was suspended and a hostel warden served notice for allegedly suppressing the matter of a pregnant tribal student delivering at a hospital from the district administration here. Reports of an eighth-grade girl of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) delivering baby at a district hospital surfaced on January 24. According to an FIR registered by the girl’s parents last week, she was in relationship with a boy. The district officials claim that they came to know about delivery on Saturday. The headmaster and warden allegedly knew about her pregnancy and hid the matter from the district administration officials. “The headmaster, Bibhuti Satapathy, has been suspended for negligence in duty. Necessary action will be taken against the hostel warden, Ranu Behera, after we get the reply of the show cause notice issued to her,” Koraput District Collector Yamini Sarangi said. Both the school officials allegedly allowed the girl’s parents to shift her to the district hospital here. Meanwhile, the boy had been arrested on Saturday and he is being interrogated, a senior district police officer said on Monday. Situated at the district headquarters town here, the KGBV has classes from VI to VIII and is being managed by the school and mass education department.(PTI)
Sister-duo arrested for drug peddling
Phagwara: A sister-duo was arrested here on charges of drug peddling as 500 grams of a suspicious white powdery substance was recovered from them, police said on Monday. The two sisters, identified as Ranjit Kaur (21) and Balbir Kaur (20) of village Buhani, were arrested last night at a police outpost near Civil Hospital on the Phagwara-Palahi road, they said. The sisters who were walking on the road, on sighting the police outspost, aroused suspicion when they suddenly turned and started moving backwards, they said. They were then apprehended and on search 250 grams each of the suspected powder was recovered from their possession, police added. Both were arrested under Sections 21,61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Preliminary questioning of the duo revealed that they were involved in drug supplying and that they charged Rs 500 for one gram of heroin sachets, police said. They also informed the police that they got the supply from Amritsar. (PTI)
Case of gangrape registered against five upon court order
Muzaffarnagar:Upon the directive of a local court, a case has been registered against five men on charges of gang-raping a woman at Sujru village under Kotwali police station in the district. The case was registered on Sunday upon the order of Chief Judicial Magistrate Narinder Kumar on the petition filed by the victim who alleged that no action had been taken on her complaint about the incident on October 8, 2014. The woman alleged that the accused had pressurised her to withdraw the complaint of gang-rape in 2012. The woman was allegedly gang-raped by two men in 2012 and the case was pending in court. The accused were later released on bail and pressurised the woman to withdraw her complaint. Upon her refusal to do so, the woman was allegedly gang-raped by five men, including the two who had raped her in 2012, when she was returning home near Vehelna Chowk in 2014. Police has registered a case against Shakil, Kalsa, Rajesh, Wasid and an unidentified man in this connection and investigations have begun. (PTI)
