SHILLONG: While the ruling coalition ARPA in the KHADC submitted a letter to Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi on Wednesday to inform him about the election of the new leader by the alliance, the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) has adopted a wait and watch policy.
The newly-elected ARPA leader Metbah Lyngdoh said that the letter submitted to the Governor mentioned that the ARPA coalition still enjoys the majority with the support of as many as 16 MDCs in the 30-member House.
“We will be waiting for a response from the Governor since he is out of station,” Lyngdoh said.
Indications are that the ARPA coalition may meet the Governor on Monday once he arrives in Shillong.
According to Lyngdoh, the Governor will fix the date for the special session for the election of the new CEM.
Lyngdoh also asserted that all the 16 MDCS are intact. “I am happy to see the new energy among the MDCs of ARPA. Everyone reaffirmed their commitment to remain with the alliance till the end of the term,” ARPA leader said.
He also hoped that the new arrangement will end the political instability in the Council.
Earlier, the PDF which was reduced to a minority had a meeting to discuss the political situation in the Council.
The PDF members said that they are yet to get any intimation from the two members, James Sylliang and Grace Mary Kharpuri who left the PDF alliance.
The cautious approach on the part of the PDF is aimed at wooing the members who have deserted the PDF.
