KHADC stalemate

SHILLONG: Opposing the State Government’s stand on imposition of Administrator’s Rule in the KHADC, the ruling coalition in the Council – ARPA – has urged the State Governor to convene a special session for election of a new Chief Executive Member (CEM).
“With the stepping down of the incumbent CEM Adelbert Nongrum, there is no hindrance or deadlock to convene the special session for the election of the new leader to lead the Council. We request you to convene a special session to enable the present internal arrangement to materialise as per Constitutional provision,” the ARPA chairman Metbah Lyngdoh said in a letter submitted to Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi on Thursday.
Sticking to its previous decision to impose “Administrator’s Rule” in the KHADC, the State Cabinet on Wednesday had decided to send a fresh recommendation to the State Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi in this regard.
Lyngdoh also stated that the House is the best place to prove whether the Opposition or ruling is in the majority.
He also said that there was no political instability in the Council as projected by the State Government.
“We still enjoy the support of majority of the MDCs in the Council,” the ARPA chairman said.
When contacted, Lyngdoh on Saturday said that he was optimistic that the governor would take a decision by applying his mind judiciously on the matter.
He also informed that they have sought an appointment with the Governor to apprise him of the present situation.
Lyngdoh also said that they would apprise the Governor that all the 16 MDCs of the ARPA were intact and the alliance has every right to continue in the executive committee (EC).
