20 injured in road mishaps on Kota-Jaipur highway
Bundi (Rajasthan):At least 20 persons including 12 women were injured on Monday in two separate road accidents on Kota-Jaipur national highway, police said. In the first incident, a private passenger sleeper coach bus coming to Kota from Jodhpur was hit from behind by a truck near Talabgaun on Kota-Jaipur national highway under Hindoli police station area of the district, Raju Udaiwal, ASI Hindoli said. Three persons including a woman were injured in the accident and have been referred to Maharao Bheem Singh hospital in Kota, he said, adding that they are in critical condition. In the second incident, a passenger bus from Didwana Roadways depot hit a parallel running bus of Beyawar Roadways depot near Kheroli turn on Jaipur-Kota highway under Talera police station area, police said. After being hit, the Beyawar Roadways bus overturned on the roadside injuring at least 17 passengers including 11 women, they said. The injured have been rushed to the community health centre in Talera. Cases of negligent driving have been lodged against the drivers of the truck and Rajasthan Roadways bus in the first incident and against the Didwana Roadways depot bus driver, police said. The Kota-Jaipur highway remained blocked for an hour after the accidents, they said. Further investigation into both the cases are on, police added. (PTI)
Motorcycle rider crushed in MP
Dewas, (MP): A motorcycle rider was on Monday killed on the spot when he was crushed by a truck on the Dewas-Bhopal Road, police said.Ramchandra and Jitendra were going on their separate motorcycles when Ramchandra’s motorbike was hit by an unidentified truck. Ramchandra died on the spot. On the basis of Jitendra’s complaint, a case was registered against an unidentified driver. The body has been sent for post-mortem. (UNI)
HC judge dives into lake to save girl from drowning
Chandigarh: A High Court judge here dived into the local Sukhna lake to save a teenage girl from drowning after she allegedly attempted suicide, police said. The incident took place on March 30 when Justice M Jeyapaul (60) of the Punjab and Haryana High Court dived into the Lake to save the 15-year-old girl after he noticed her drowning while he was on his routine morning walk, Sukhna Lake Police Post In-charge Mini Bhardwaj told PTI here today. Jeyapaul’s security officer, Yashpal also jumped into the Lake and the duo managed to save the girl, police added. (PTI)
Jadavpur University website hacked
Kolkata: The official website of Jadavpur University was today allegedly hacked and pornography posted on it. University Registrar Pradip Ghosh said the university removed the offensive content after being informed about it. “We have alerted the police also since this is a cyber crime,” he told reporters. The website was hacked in September last year when the students were agitating to demand Vice Chancellor’s resignation and showed him saying sorry. “Now we need to add an extra layer of security into our system so that it doesn’t happen again,” Ghosh said, adding that the act seems to be a part of some mischievous conspiracy to malign the varsity. Afghan national held with Rs 2 crore gold at airport
New Delhi: In one of the biggest seizures of gold in past one year, an Afghanistan national has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country the yellow metal valuing about Rs two crore at international airport here. The accused was intercepted by customs officials after his arrival on Saturday from Dubai. “On personal and baggage search, eight gold bars total weighing 8 kg and valuing Rs 1.94 crore were recovered,” a customs official said. It is one of the biggest seizures affected in last one year, he said, adding, the gold was seized and the passenger arrested. “The seizure is the result of intensified vigil at sensitive sectors which include Afghan region,” he said. Another Afghanistan national was arrested last month for allegedly trying to smuggle in gold worth about Rs 55 lakh. (PTI)
Criminal killed in war of attrition with rivals
Lakhisarai: A notorious criminal, who was injured in firing by a rival group in Nandpur village under Suryagarha police station in the district, died on Monday. Police said two rival criminal gangs exchanged fire on Sunday evening in which Shailesh alias Hagan Singh was seriously injured. The criminals then tried to escape on seeing the police, who rush to the site.However, Singh, who was severely injured, was taken into custody and sent to Patna Medical College Hospital for treatment, where he died this morning, police added.According to police, Singh was facing charges in eight murder cases, loot and kidnapping in Suryagarha and Medini Chowki police stations. He was also charged with firing and injuring the Mukhiya of Abgil Rampur panchayat. (UNI)
