Imposition of Administrator’s Rule in KHADC, GHADC

SHILLONG: The UDP has threatened to hit the streets against the ‘undemocratic’ decision of the State Government to impose Administrator’s Rule in KHADC and GHADC.
The UDP, which met on Monday, condemned the recent decision of the Cabinet to stick to the imposition of the Administrator’s Rule in KHADC even after the direction of the Meghalaya Governor to review the earlier decision of the Cabinet.
In a statement issued here, UDP general secretary, Allan F. Dkhar said that the advice of the Governor to review the Cabinet decision was adamantly rejected by the Government despite the fact that all constitutional requirements had been complied with by ARPA.
“This is a clear indication of the manipulative agenda of the Congress government to facilitate “horse trading” and usurp power in KHADC against the basic tenets of democracy, for which the UDP has time and again demanded from Parliament, the inclusion of the ADCs under the purview of the Tenth Schedule,” Dkhar said.
The party dwelt at length on the “stalemate created by the Congress government” and condemned the move to stifle the mandate of the people.
“In GHADC, the Government has perpetuated unconstitutionally, the extensionof the tenure of the Council on manipulative grounds just to stay in power,” Dkhar said.
The UDP is contemplating to take the issue to the streets, to sensitize the public on “this highly undemocratic practices of the Congress government”.
