Agartala: BJP Tripura state committee and Pradesh Congress have demanded resignation of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar allegedly for promoting Rose Valley and six other Non Banking Financial Companies (NBFC) in the state in last few years.
BJP state president Sudhindra Dasgupta said here today that the issue of political patronization in NBFC activities in Tripura and association of Chief Minister Sarkar and CPI(M) directly in the illegal business have been discussed in BJP’s National Executive Meet in Bangalore last week.
‘‘In the meeting I have put forward the demand of full-fledge CBI probe into the NBFC activities in Tripura. Categorically, I demanded immediate interrogation of Chief Minister Mr Sarkar and his cabinet colleagues along with top leaders of CPI(M)’’, Mr Dasgupta said.
He however, pointed out that CPI(M) cadres were engaged by the NBFCs as their agent in the villages to collect money from the innocent people promising hefty return even in shorter period.
Not only in Rose Valley, Mr Sarkar hold meeting with several NBFC bosses and had attended their program and appreciated their effort of non-banking financial activities, which has encouraged people to deposit in such unscrupulous companies, he alleged.
Mr Dasgupta also maintained that CPI(M) has received donation from several NBFCs in number of times.
The party leaders openly associated with the projects of Rose Valley and other companies.
He demanded inquiry into the finance and accounts of Tripura CPI-M besides, brought all the party leaders and ministers whose evidence of presence in NBFC functions are found under CBI investigation without any further delay.
The statement of Chief Minister and senior most minister of his cabinet former finance minister Badal Choudhury are contradictory.
Mr Sarkar claimed he did not know Rose Valley and other NBFCs would cheat the peoples’ money. But Choudhury stated SEBI intimated the state government in 1999 about fraudulent activities of RoseValley and others.
Even then between 2008 and 2011, Mr Sarkar attended as many as seven NBFC promotional programs, he added. Meanwhile, Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Birajit Sinha today demanded resignation of Mr Sarkar shouldering all responsibility of NBFC cheating in the state during his tenure.
Now it is clear Mr Sarkar promoted the companies for cheating the people for his personal and party benefits. His cabinet colleagues, party leaders and a section of his administration were directly involved in NBFCs by Mr Sarkar’s advice.
If West Bengal Minister Madan Mitra could be arrested for association with Sarada group, Mr Sarkar has to be arrested for his association with Rose Valley, Waris Finance and others, Mr Sinha demanded.
He also contemplated that growth of asset of CPI(M) in Tripura and a few leaders of the party has been appeared as disproportionate to their known sources of income and added, We demand CBI should take the accounts of their asset growth. Many of CPI(M) leaders took money from NBFCs by illegally allowing them to do business in Tripura.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) Politburo has summoned Chief Minister Sarkar in Delhi last night to discuss the issue of NBFC activities in Tripura and the association of the party with them.
Mr Sarkar has left for Delhi early this morning cancelling the scheduled cabinet meeting.
The CPI(M) state committee secretary Bijan Dhar however, stated that the party is keeping close watch on the development. (UNI)
