Eleven houses damaged in multiple cylinder blasts
Guwahati:  At least eleven houses were damaged in multiple cooking gas cylinder blasts at Lichubagan area here on Sunday. “As per preliminary investigation, people heard sounds of six blasts of cooking gas cylinders. We are probing the matter further,” Assistant Commissioner of Police Suprotive Lal Barua said. All the 11 damaged houses were situated in one compound and were given on rent, he added. “None suffered burn injuries, but five persons fainted due to shock. We have sent them to the GMC Hospital,” Barua said. (PTI)
Four injured in explosion in Manipur capital
Imphal: Four persons were injured on Sunday when a powerful bomb, apparently meant to target BSF personnel, exploded in Manipur’s interior Churachandpur district bordering Myanmar. The bomb planted at a roadside near a movie theatre was set off by suspected militants using remote-controlled device at around 9 am injuring four persons, police officials said. Official reports from the district said the explosion was an attempt to target BSF personnel who are deployed in the area, but no BSF personnel was injured in the incident. The identity of the militants is not yet known as different extremist organisations operate in the district, police officials said. (PTI)
One killed, 3 injured in grenade blast in Assam
Guwahati:  One person was killed and three others were injured in a suspected grenade blast in Udalguri district of Assam on Sunday morning. Police said the grenade went off when a person who use to take the scrap had lit fire to some residual items.A grenade is suspected to have been sold to the person alongwith the unwanted items, who had later tried to burn it along with some other things.The blast was so powerful that limbs of the deceased were scattered several metres away.The injured were initially taken to a local health centre from where they were later referred to Tezpur Medical College and hospital.Police are investigating on who had sold the grenade to the scrap person. Nabam Tuki confers Karmveer title on ex-CM Dorjee Khandu
Itanagar: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on Sunday conferred Karmveer title on behalf of Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) upon Former Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu. Tuki said in his address to a distinguished gathering to mark the Society’s 9th foundation day at Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum here, that the state government’s financial support for the proposed award after late Lummer Dai will be an annual feature.  “Dr Bhupen Hazarika, who was part of Arunachalee society being born at Bolung village in NEFA, was closely associated in state’s socio-cultural development,” he said about the region’s literay heritage and recalled Hazarika’s songs like ‘Hamara Arunachal’, Kato jawanar mrityu hal (1962), and film Mera Dharam Meri Maa.
