Kalaburagi: The drinking water crisis further worsened in the district and supply maintained through tankers to 9 villages– six in Aland taluk and three in Chincholi taluk of the District.
Minister for Municipal Administration and Minority Affairs Qamarul Islam, speaking to newsmen after a review meeting said that there was no shortage of funds to tackle the drinking water problem in rural and urban areas.
“If the need arose, water will be transported to the affected villages and supply will be continued till alternative sources of drinking water are provided to the villagers.”
Mr Islam said that the government has released Rs 6 crore to tackle drinking water shortage in Aland, Chincholi and Jewargi taluks that have been declared drought-hit.
Several works, including repair to borewells, deepening borewells that have gone dry and extending pipelines from reliable water sources, have been taken up to tackle drinking water shortage in Jewargi, Aland and Chincholi taluks with the sanctioned money.
In Aland, of the 54 works sanctioned at a cost of Rs 1.89 crore, 53 have been completed; in Chincholi, of the 74 works sanctioned, 64 works have been completed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.64 cr. (UNI)
