Wild mushroom affects family of five

NONGPOH: A five-year-old boy identified as Phrang Kharsyntiew (5) died and two of his siblings are battling for life after a family of five including the mother consumed wild mushroom on Wednesday at Warmawsaw village under Patharkhmah Police Outpost, Ri Bhoi district.
The family comprising the mother identified as Indalis Kharsyntiew
(30), her children, Ibaphylla Kharsyntiew (1 yr, 8 month), Evalyne Kharsyntiew (8),Wadborlang Kharsyntiew (11) and Phrang Kharsyntiew (5) suddenly fell seriously ill after consuming  mushroom in dinner on Wednesday.
They were immediately taken to Patharkhmah CHC and then referred to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for further treatment. However, Phrang Kharsyntiew was pronounced dead at the hospital, whereas Evalyne and Wadborlang were again referred to Ganesh Das Hospital in Shillong on Thursday after their health condition deteriorated. Their condition remains critical.
Earlier, while Ibaphylla was discharged on request from her family, the mother was released from Nongpoh Civil Hospital on Friday morning.
