SHILLONG: Hindi paper is not compulsory in Delhi University for those students who took Hindi subject only up to class 8.The President of the North East Students’ Human Rights Organization (NESHRO), Daniel Stone Lyngdoh and its General Secretary N Haineube made a clarification that the long pending issue faced by North East students and South Indian Students in regard to Hindi paper being made compulsory for those students, who do not fall under the category of MIL (Modern Indian Language) especially the B. Com (Hons) students of SRCC, was finally taken up and the problem has been solved with the approval of Dean of Examination Delhi University.
A statement issued by North East Students’ Human Rights Organization said that earlier on March 30 , members of the NESHRO met the Principal of SRCC and discussed the matter and found out that the college authority of SRCC misunderstood the syllabus provided by the University.
According to the syllabus, Hindi is compulsory for those students who studied Hindi till class 10 but besides Hindi, other Humanities paper like Political Science (Reading Gandhi) and Philosophy are included as an option for those students who studied Hindi only upto class 8.
However, the College authority did not realize this provision and thus made Hindi compulsory to all students who cannot opt for MIL, except to those who didn’t study Hindi even till class 8. As a result, some students from North East as well as South India have faced a problem and even some senior students failed to get graduation because of this paper.
Finally, the Principal forwarded the application of the students to the Dean of Examination Delhi University and the Dean considered the issue of the students and solved the problem. Now all the students who got Hindi paper were also allowed to write in English and thus wrote the recent semester examination which held in the month of May successfully.
The registration for undergraduate course in Delhi University for the session 2015-16 has started since May 28 and will go on till June 15 (for more details, the University can visit the official website www.du.ac.in).
NESHRO said that students, especially the freshers should be well versed with the rules regarding Hindi/MIL compulsory of the University. In case, any student faces this problem in future, they can contact (NESHRO) through email [email protected] or facebook page Neshro: India, NESHRO added.
