SHILLONG: A delegation of 110 people led by former Syiem of Mylliem, Laborious Manik S. Syiem, met Chief Adviser to the State Government, D.D. Lapang, at his office chamber at the Meghalaya Secretariat and apprised him of their desire to be part of the Committee constituted for empowerment and protection of traditional bodies.
Lapang is the Chairman of the Committee formed by the State Government to institutionalize the functioning of traditional bodies.
The delegation submitted a memorandum to Lapang urging him that while the Committee was carrying on with its task, the opinion from the grass root traditional heads should also be taken into consideration.
They also demanded that more representatives should be nominated as members.
Lapang asked them to send their suggestions to the Committee and assured that work will be completed at the earliest and submitted to the Government.
Besides Laborious Syiem, the convener of the delegation, others who attended the meeting included B.S. Syiem, Syiem of Khyriem, C. Lyngdoh, Dolloi Elaka Raliang, Puramon Kynjing, acting Dolloi Elaka Jowai, H. Skhemlon, Sordar Hima Mawdon, E. Sutnga, Dolloi Elaka Sutnga, Wanphrang Lyngdoh, Sordar Elaka Nongpoh, P. Rynjah, Sordar Elaka, S. Lyngskor, Sordar Elaka Sohbar, Edward Kurbah, Secretary Elaka Marbisu Sirdarship, M. Dhar, acting Dolloi Elaka Shangpung and Niandro Syiemiong, Syiem of Hima Maharam.
