Shillong: As part of the statewide enrolment for the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme phase -II, the District Medical Health Officer, East Khasi Hills conducted a day long mass mobilization drive for the people of Mylliem Constituency at San Mer Secondary School, Upper Shillong on Saturday.
Health Minister, AL Hek informed that the MHIS phase-II provides insurance cover for hospitalization and treatment in all government and private hospitals in the State including empanelled private hospitals outside the State for a wide range of diseases which include cost related for MRI, CT scan and much more.
During the first phase of MHIS the scheme has provided insurance benefits to more 40 thousand families of the State with a total claim of more than 16 crore. But for the second phase only one thousand families out of twelve thousand have enrolled, said R V Lyngdoh, local MLA. He urged the residents of Mylliem to enroll and avail the benefits of the scheme.
The scheme is available for all people of the State except state and central government employees. Under the scheme, beneficiaries will be entitled to up to Rs. 2 lakh coverage at the time of hospitalization and it is extendable up to five members (Contd on P-10)

Smart Cards were distributed to the selected beneficiaries who have enrolled for the scheme.
