Amlarem MLA quits as MDC

SHILLONG/JOWAI: The Law department has sent the Bill barring MLAs from holding dual post of MDCs to the Meghalaya Governor V. Shanmuganathan for his assent.
An official source said that the Prevention of Disqualification (Members of the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya) (Amendment) Bill, 2015 which was passed by the Assembly on Thursday, was forwarded to the Governor’s Secretariat on Monday.
The source added that the file will be put up to the Governor on Tuesday.
The Bill, as per it’s clause, will become effective from October 1.
The pending process is that after the assent of the Governor, the Bill will be notified in the official gazette to make it operational.
While HDR Lyngdoh (Congress) and Ardent Basaiawmoit (HSPSP) have already resigned as MDCs, another HSPDP MLA Phlastingwell Pangniang has also decided to put in his paper as MDC. Stephanson Mukhim (Independent) has resigned on Monday.
The remaining dual post holders are Metbah Lyngdoh and  Brolding Nongsiej (both UDP), Pyngshngainlang Syiem (Congress), and  Sanbor Shullai (NCP).
Amlarem MLA: Meanwhile, Amlarem MLA and JHADC member Stephanson Mukhim on Monday resigned as an MDC. He submitted his resignation letter to the JHADC chief Laitsing Shylla. “I have taken the decision as the Meghalaya Assembly passed an amendment Bill which bars a member of the Assembly from holding an elected post in the autonomous district councils,” he said.
