TURA: The owner of the relief truck confiscated by west Garo Hills police at Hallidayganj has denied any wrongdoing and clarified that the material seized was supposed to be kept in storage for any emergency that may arise.
Giving documentary evidence about the consignment, supplier Gautam Prasad displayed the rice challan issued from Dhubri which was released on September 22 from Dhubri.
“There were incessant rains in Garo Hills from the 19th of September and in apprehension of possible flooding in the plains belt the rice stock was ordered. I have the challan and documents to prove it,” said Prasad in a clarification to The Shillong Times over the publication of the story.
“I was given the contract for  relief in the flood affected areas and the order clearly states that I should have a contigency plan for any possible natural calamity,” said the supplier.
Meanwhile, another supplier Balseng Sangma has threatened to take police to court for dragging his name into the seizure.
“I have no connection with the police seizure and yet my name is dragged in. Not a single bag of rice in the seized truck belongs to me. I will take them to court,” threatened Balseng Sangma.
