SHILLONG: The stretch of road at Umsning has gone from bad to worse with potholes greeting the commuters all along. The poor road condition is also responsible for traffic jams on the highway.
Local residents have complained that the road condition has deteriorated over the last couple of months thanks to the monsoon and other factors. Residents fear that the “big potholes” all along the road may cause serious accidents if not repaired immediately.
The road is currently under the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), which is implementing the four lane project.
Sources informed that the repairing work could not be taken up due the long monsoon season and would be done shortly. “The onslaught of the monsoon and absence of drainage system along the stretch has led to the deterioration of the road,” sources said.
The 4 km road whch falls between the expressway would not be developed into a four lane since a bypass will be constructed from another stretch in Umsning.
