Wage hike
The Principal Secretary, Labour Department, has informed that the Government of Meghalaya has revised the minimum wages payable to employees under the 28 Schedule of Employments with effect from April 1, 2015. The daily minimum wage is Rs.170 for unskilled workers, Rs.181 for semi-skilled workers, Rs.191 for skilled workers and Rs.212 for highly-skilled workers.
RTI anniv
Meghalaya Right to Information Movement and the Campaign for an Independent Lokayukta in Meghalaya will celebrate 10 years of the RTI anniversary from 11 am onwards at the Additional Secretariat Parking Lot opposite CTO Building on October 13. There will be exhibition of prominent RTI files besides distribution of model RTI applications and leaflets explaining about RTI and a help desk to assist people who want to file RTIs.
Beneficiaries
The Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Khasi Hills has informed that the list of beneficiaries under NFSA 2013 has been displayed at all the Block Development Offices. Claims and objections will be entertained in the respective BDO offices till October 21, 2015. Further, claims and objections will be accepted only in a prescribed format available at the office of the concerned BDO.
Competition
The Superintendent of Fisheries, East Khasi Hills will organize the 2nd Catch and Release Angling Competition on Oct 13 at Ward’s Lake, Shillong from 9 am to 3 pm.
Symposium
A symposium on ‘The 3 E’s of Education – Engagement, Excellence and Ethics, for advancement in Education’ was organised by Macmillan Education on October 9 in Tura. School heads of around 30 schools attended the symposium. Jyotsna Bharadwaj, faculty of IDGC, NCERT, was the resource person.
Philately Day
Philately Day will be observed as part of the National Postal Week celebration on October 13 at Shillong GPO Public Hall at 11 am. Special covers to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides, Shillong and centenary of St. Edmund’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong will also be released.
Social meet
The Seng Nongjri will hold its 51st general meeting cum social meet on October 17 at Khasi National Durbar Hall, Mawkhar at 11 am. Awards will be presents to students from Nongjri who have secured the highest total marks in the various examinations.
Seminar
Union Christian College will organize an international seminar on ‘Climate Change: Impact on Developing Countries’ on Oct 15 at 9:30 am. Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will be the chief guest.
Workshop
The Career and Counselling Cell, NEHU, in collaboration with Nettrack System and Services, Guwahati, will conduct a two-day workshop on October 14-15 for final year students of NEHU and affiliated colleges. Fee of Rs.200 would be charged as registration from the participants.
