Traffic regulations in city on October 30
SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police on Wednesday informed that in connection with the mega public rally in the city organised by Ka Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep on October 30, all routes around Lachumiere and Secretariat Hill will be closed temporarily from 11am to 1pm on the day.
The police official asked all motorists to avoid the route during the said hours.
He also informed that all types of vehicles plying from Laitumkhrah to Iewduh (Bara Bazaar) will have to take the route from Dhankheti to Malki – Crinoline – Pine Mount School – Red Cross Junction – Civil Point -General Point – Bucher Road to Grand Hotel Point then proceed to Bara Bazaar and vice versa.
The district police chief further said the one way which was imposed at Bucher Road has been temporarily lifted during the procession.
Tourist vehicles and private vehicles coming from Guwahati to Khyndailad will take the route from Jaiaw – Riatsamthiah – Umsohsun – Khyndailad and vice versa.
In addition, vehicles from Laitumkhrah going to Mawlai will take the Polo – FCI – Mawlai Phudmawrie route and vice versa.
Man held for wife’s murder in Jaintia Hills

JOWAI: East Jaintia Hills Police on Wednesday nabbed one Dwis Phawa (36) for allegedly murdering his wife Julimem Dkhar (46).
Following a missing report lodged on Monday and recovery of the woman’s body a search party of villagers, police took action and nabbed the husband who is the prime suspect in the case. He was taken to Khliehriat for interrogation and will be produced before the court at Khliehriat on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the body of the woman was handed over to the relatives on Wednesday after all formalities was conducted. The body will be cremated on Thursday.
Relatives of the victim alleged that Dwis Phawa used to assault his wife from time to time. “On Sunday evening he forcibly took her from a neighbour’s house and later killed her,” they claimed.
Preparations on for ITM in WJH village

JOWAI: Preparation to welcome delegates of the International Terra Madre is underway in full swing at Moosakhia village in West Jaintia Hills.
The village on of the many selected in the State to host the delegates of the ITM, a conclave of indigenous people worldwide which is scheduled to be held in the State from November 3-7.
Delegates of the ITM numbering around 600 from 52 countries will come to Shillong on November 3 and visit the selected villages on November 6.
Moosakhia village under Amlarem C&RD Block is expecting around 60 delegates.
Secretary of the village Council, Barly Suting, informed that the village Dorbar has taken necessary steps to welcome the delegates as per the guidelines of the North East Slow Food and Agro biodiversity Society (NESFAS).
The village was recently declared as open defecation free by the district administration.
“During their visit to the village, the delegates will witness various traditional and cultural programmes which will be put up in association with the Sein Raij Mupyut,” a village elder, Real Sing Muksor, informed.
Traditional food items will be prepared and served to the visitors, it was informed.
DCC conventions held at Mawkyrwat, Nongpoh
SHILLONG: Special conventions of the District Congress Committee were held at Mawkyrwat and Nongpoh recently. AICC general secretary in charge of Meghalaya, V. Narayanasamy and AICC Secretary Vijay Laxmi Sadho attended the conventions.
The convention held at Mawkyrwat was attended by MPCC president D.D. Lapang, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, Deputy CM Rowell Lyngdoh and other party members.
The convention at Nongpoh was attended by the MPCC president and other party members, MLAs, MDCs and workers.
In both the conventions, the AICC in charge stressed on the membership drive and held discussions on strengthening the party in Meghalaya.
BSF troops seize 27 cattle on Indo-Bangla border
SHILLONG: BSF troops seized 27 cattle at Muktapur, in West Jaintia Hills and Nongjri in East Khasi Hills worth more than Rs.4 lakh, while being smuggled into Bangladesh from India.
The BSF in a statement issued on Wednesday informed that cases of cattle smuggling in Muktapur, Nayabazar and Tura have increased in the recent past but said the force has been putting extra efforts to curb this illegal act.
Last week, BSF troops had seized 68 cattle, several wooden logs, 808 liquor bottles, and other contraband items worth more than Rs.34 lakh, while being smuggled out from India to Bangladesh on the Meghalaya border.
