NONGSTOIN/SHILLONG:  Three candidates, including a woman, on Tuesday filed nomination papers for Nongstoin by-election scheduled for November 21.
Among those who filed their nomination papers include Independent woman candidate Fenella Lyngdoh, Congress candidate Gabriel Wahlang and HSPDP candidate Daiosstar Jyndiang.
The seat fell vacant after the death of HSPDP chief Hoping Stone Lyngdoh on September 26 last.
Wahlang, who was accompanied by the state minister HDR Lyngdoh during submission of his nomination papers, later told newsmen said that the decision  of Dr A Pariong to extend support to his candidature has given a boost to his chances of winning the by-poll.
Interestingly, with the Disqualification Amendment Act, 2005 coming into force, Wahlang will have to resign from the post of MDC “if he contests the election”.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer P Naik, he (Wahlang) has to resign from the post of MDC before the scrutiny of nominations.
The last date for submission of nomination is November 4 and scrutiny will take place the next day.
Meanwhile, Lok Janshakti Party has also joined the fray with the allotment of party ticket to   Brensly  Riangshiang.
