Prime accused in IB official’s abduction, execution arrested

SHILLONG: In an early morning raid at Mindigre village on Tuesday, South Garo Hills Police arrested Algrin Ch Marak from Mindikgre, a top ASAK leader who is believed to be instrumental in the kidnapping and killing of SIB officer Bikash Singh and trader Kamal Saha of Rongram.
An official communiqué from Meghalaya Police said Algrin was second in command of ASAK after Reading T Sangma, self styled commander in chief of the outfit and maintained finances and other materials such as demand letters etc.
“He was instrumental in organizing the kidnapping of the SIB officer and Saha on September 24 from Panda Reserve Forest and later brutal killing of the victims by Sengbath Shira and other cadres of ASAK,” Meghalaya Police said.
Meanwhile, villagers from Silkigre in Chokpot region of South Garo Hills have lynched an extortionist who had allegedly come to the area to demand money on Monday night.
Villagers apprehended the unidentified man who allegedly came to the area with an accomplice to collect money from the inhabitants of the place. The accused was severely beaten by the mob while his accomplice managed to escape.
The body of the assaulted man was recovered on Tuesday morning lying outside the village. The fate of his companion remains unknown.
