JOWAI: The Jaintia National Council comprising East Jaintia Hills National Council and the West Jaintia Hills National Council (EJNC & WJNC) has demanded a CBI inquiry into the illegal sale and use of PHE GI pipes in Jaintia Hills.
The JNC claimed that most of these GI pipes were being used by individuals in car wash centres.
“These pipes are supposed to reach villages for water supply, however, we have detected that these pipes are being used illegally by private parties,” the JNC claimed.
“PHE contractors have illegally sold these pipes instead of using them for water supply schemes,” the JNC alleged.
The JNC has also blamed Deputy Chief Minister in charge of PHE, R.C. Laloo, for allegedly encouraging such illegal activities.
The Jaintia National Council informed that last month, the leaders of the pressure group has sought an appointment to meet the minister.
However, the minister’s personal secretary informed them that he was not in the State and had assured to arrange a meeting at alter date.
“Till date, there is no information from the PS,” the JNC informed.
The Jaintia National Council has urged the minister concerned to spare his valuable time to meet them so that the issue could be appraised for the welfare of the people.
