Skeletal remains unearthed in EKH village

SHILLONG: In a probable closure to a three-year-old missing person’s case, residents of Wahlyngkhat village in East Khasi Hills have recovered human bones from a jungle near the village which are believed to be remains of a local resident who had gone missing on January 30, 2013.
Police said that on Sunday, residents of Wahlyngkhat village recovered the bones from a jungle near the village and informed the relatives of the missing person who ‘identified’ the remains to be that of the missing person and buried him without informing the police.
Police said that they will inquire into the matter and question the person who had identified the remains to be that of the missing person and had buried the same without informing the police.
“If required, we will write to the court to exhume the remains again,” police said.
Police also said that the missing person was mentally ill and ruled out the possibility of any foul play in the death of the victim.
