Govt yet to release pending wages

NONGPOH: Striking casual workers serving under the Health department in Ri Bhoi District have decided to end their agitation even though the State government and the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) have failed to pay their salaries pending for the past eight months.
The casual workers, numbering around 100 in the district, had called an indefinite strike on November 11 in protest against non release of their wages for the last eight months.
Informing of their decision to go back to work, a representative of the casual workers said, “Though the State government has turned its back on our pleas for release of wages we will resume our duties of attending to the patients and the general public who are in need of our care and we will continue to serve the needs of the general public.”
The casual workers also reiterated their plea for urgent release of their wages to address the sufferings of the family members who depend on them for their daily bread.
