MPCC thanks supporters, party workers
SHILLONG: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president D.D. Lapang has thanked party workers, functionaries and supporters who worked selflessly and tirelessly for the party candidate, Gabriel Wahlang, in the by election to the Nongstoin Assembly constituency.
“Though our candidate could not emerge victorious, we accept the mandate of the people,” Lapang said.
He also congratulated Diosstarness Jyndiang of the HSPDP on his election as the representative from Nongstoin to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, while also thanking the electorates and the Election department for a peaceful poll.
Trucks’ drivers arrested
SHILLONG: Two coal laden trucks were seized by police in East Jaintia Hills for passing through without weighing at Byndihati Weigh Bridge and also attempted to knock down Police personnel on duty on Saturday.
Following this, Police chased the trucks and managed to intercept two trucks (ML-04B-0657) driven by Jopanki Phawa and (ML-04B-4449) driven by Klet Pale. Both the drivers could not produce any valid documents.
Girl escape abduction
SHILLONG: A driver of a tempo truck allegedly attempted to abduct a girl in South West Garo Hills recently. Police said that the incident happened on November 17 when the girl (18) was travelling in a tempo (ML-08C-1392) from Chapahati-I towards Bagicha and the driver of the tempo Ramesh Islam, attempted to abduct her. However, when she raised alarm, the accused fled away along with her college documents and cash Rs. 90.
Woman dies in a car crash
SHILLONG: A woman perished while a police officer sustained injuries when their vehicle met an accident on Shillong Bye pass on November 21. Police said that the incident happened on November 21 at around 3.30 am, when one Maruti Alto car (ML-05K-0985) driven by Sardonic Katrai (2nd OC, Ranikor PS) crashed at Umdohbyrthih Shillong By-pass (RB).
Bangladeshi woman arrested
SHILLONG: Police arrested a Bangladeshi woman, Annu Begum after she illegally entered India from Bangladesh on November 20. Begum illegally entered the country through the international border at Dawki (WJH).
UGC project for NEHU
SHILLONG: Dr. Saurabh Kumar Dixit, Associate Professor and HoD, NEHU, Shillong was entrusted by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi for a major research project of Rs 9,69,600 on ‘Study of Service Quality, Satisfaction and Intent to Return Among Tourists Visiting the Leading Hotels of Guwahati (Assam) and Shillong (Meghalaya)’ for the period of three years. In this research project, he will study different dimensions of consumer behaviour in relation to the prominent hospitality units in the study area. The study will also strive to analyze issues concerning to service quality, guest satisfaction and loyalty level among the hotel consumers.
MLA submits utilization certificate
SHILLONG: MLA Sanbor Shullai on Tuesday submitted the utilization certificate for discretionarygrant sanctioned for the year 2015-16 for Rs 4 lakhs along with the list of the beneficiaries. His salary earnings as an MLA for seventeen months at the rate of one lakh thirty thousand per month which comes to seventeen lakh fifty one thousand has also been utilized for the people of the constituency.
FIRs filed in fraud cases
SHILLONG: One Tapsreng Jones K Sangma lodged a complaint that on November 16, he deposited Rs. 15,000 in the ICICI bank account of Sulekha.Com for Distance Education for LLB course. However till filing of this FIR, no communication was received by the complainant.
Bilen Suiam of Shangpung lodged a complaint (WT dtd. 23-11-2015) that on August 26, one Tiarsing Shadap Manner a local quack, took Rs. 21,075 from the complainant with a promise to treat her ailing son. However, the accused is absconding till date.
Minor allegedly rape
SHILLONG: In a shocking incident, one Prosanjit Kharlyngdoh (19) allegedly raped a nine year old girl at Dangar village. Police said that the incident happened on November 13 noon.
MIYF demands passage of VABs
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Indigenous Youth Federation (MIYF) has asked the State government to pass the Village Administration Bills (VABs) of both the KHADC and the JHADC without further ado.
Stating that it is a ploy of the government to divide the indigenous people, MIYF called upon the State government to be transparent and to put up the paragraphs, articles or clauses of the VABs in the public domain for mass awareness on the two bills.
The organization also asked the government to refrain from acquiring people’s land in the name of development and alleged that the State government was leasing out land to non-Hynniewtrep people for settlement and business purposes.
