Guwahati: Assam peasant organisation Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) gheraoed the Raj Bhavan on Saturday demanding the dismissal of Governor P B Acharya for his alleged “communal views”.
Addressing the large number of KMSS workers in front of the Raj Bhavan, KMSS chief and RTI activist Akhil Gogoi demanded the dismissal of the Governor alleging that he had violated the Constitution by saying that ‘Hindustan is for Hindus’.
Gogoi also warned BJP to refrain from spreading communal hatred in the state. KMSS also demanded land deed for the land less and protested against intolerance, the alleged “communal attitude” of BJP-led NDA at the Centre, its “failure in all spheres” and price rise which was affecting all people.
The gherao was the culmination of a eight-day march from Nagaon to here.
He said in the absence of land deeds, the landless poor were deprived of infrastructure development projects, electricity, drinking water and even schools. Though talks were held with the state government which assured to issue land pattas to thousands of landless in the state nothing was done as yet, he said adding
“We will wait till February 28 next year for the government to solve our problem”. Accusing the BJP-led Government at the Centre of “betraying the people of the country”, he said “BJP will not be allowed to form government here (Assam) if the Centre fails to solve the peoples problems”. (PTI)
