Tetelia-Byrnihat railway project in progress

SHILLONG: The work for the Tetelia-Byrnihat railway project is in progress and the North East Frontier Railway project has got the possession of the all the land except portion of the land belonging to local MLA, railway official said.
He said that the deadline for the Tetelia-Byrnihat is March 2018, but they are expected to complete the   project much before that since they have got the land where only 2.5 kilometers of the Tetelia-Byrnihat project falls under Meghalaya.
Reacting to a query about the proposed Byrnihat-Shillong railway line, the official inforemd that for this project they have completed the survey till 103 kilometers.
The railways are contemplating to connect all the eight states in India’s North East by 2020 as the department has already started ‘Mission 2020’ which will be implemented strictly within the stipulated timeframe.
However, NGOs in Meghalaya are demanding for a comprehensive and effective mechanism for checking influx before the introduction of railway in the state.
