TURA: The magisterial inquiry ordered by the State government into the killing of two civilians by Army personnel in Kharkutta village began its first hearing of witnesses on Thursday.
Addl. District Magistrate David D Sangma, who is heading the magisterial probe, began his inquiry at Kharkutta and on Thursday as many as seven witnesses gave their statements to him.
Most of those who gave their statements were relatives of the two victims. In view of a large turnout of witnesses the magisterial probe will resume hearing on Tuesday next.
“Many have come forward to record their statements but due to paucity of time we could not record all their statements. We will continue next week,” informed Sangma.
It may be mentioned that two civilians, including a school teacher from Rajasimla, who were travelling on a motorcycle were shot dead by Army personnel at Konchikol area of Kharkutta, last week, in a case of ‘mistaken identity’ leading to public outcry all over the region.
