Mystery shrouds over death of Manipuri youth in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Mystery still shrouds the death of a Manipuri youth who was found hanging from a tree in the residence of an Odisha Administrative Service officer here on Tuesday.
Police said preliminary reports revealed L. Poumai was from Manipur and his brother has identified him from a photo sent via Whatsapp.
“Though prima-facie it looks like a case of suicide, we are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death. We are investigating the matter,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Satyabrat Bhoi said.
Sources said the 23-year-old student was a native of Khabung Karong village in Senapati district.
According to his family, Poumai made a distress call to them at 4:55 p.m. on Sunday (November 29) complaining that around five people were threatening to kill him.
However, police sources said Poumai, with injuries on his body was rescued by some local from Balugaon railway station in Khurdha district on November 30 and admitted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
The sources said he was discharged from hospital on November 30 and his body was found hanging on the officer’s residence on November 1. (IANS)
