SHILLONG: Residents of various areas in the city, especially Laban, Lawsohtun and Kench’s Trace areas had to bear the brunt of a power cut for more than three hours on a cold Tuesday evening.
Power went off at around 5 pm on Tuesday evening thereby exposing many residents to the cold and harsh winter evening owing to their inability to use heaters to ward away the maladies of the December winter chill.
Many people, especially the old folks had to struggle to sustain themselves in the absence of electricity as the heating systems remained inoperable.
MeECL officials said that the power went off due to a jumper break-down in the campus of Territorial Army at Lawsohtun. “These breakdowns often happen and many a time, the jumper is weak and breaks down when the load id increased,” said an official of MeECL who was on site to repair the fault.
Power was, however restored at around 8.15 pm.
