Sensitization programme on disaster management

SHILLONG:  A Sensitization programme on Disaster Management and Preparation of Village Disaster Management Plan was organized by the office of the SDO (Civil) Mairang, West Khasi Hills in collaboration with Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute, (MATI), Shillong on Tuesday at the Tirot Sing Memorial  Hall, Pyndengumiong.
The programme was participated by village Headmen, Secretaries, Gram Sevaks, Gram Sevikas of Mairang C &RD Block.  The inaugural programme was presided over by the Extra Assistant Commissioner, F. Lakiang.
As addressing the people, the EAC spoke about the importance of such trainings organized by MATI as these will enable all the residents of the locality right from the headmen to the Community based organizations to take a collaborative effort and coordinate with the District Authorities in order to equip themselves in the event of a disaster.
She urged the  Village Dorbars  to prepare  Disaster Management plans in order  to be self reliant, since timely help can be afforded best by the people  living in the locality itself.
The training programme touched on the following areas – Disaster Management concepts and Terminologies Roles and Responsibilities of Village Disaster Management Teams, (VDMTs),  Preparation of Village DM Plans, Mock Drill.
The training was imparted by P.Marbaniang,  Resource Person, (MATI), M. Langstieh, Asst. Professor, MATI, Shillong and Jonathan Mawthoh, ADPO, DDMA, Nongstoin
