SHILLONG: Over one lakh patients got medical treatment in 2014-15 from both the charity dispensary and mobile medical unit of Ramakrishna Mission for which over Rs 73 lakh was spent.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Swami Achyuteshananda said that while the Mission treated as many as 80,979 cases through its charitable dispensary, 25,219 patients got treatment through its mobile medical unit at an expenditure of Rs.64,00,288 and 9,49,989 respectively.
It also served 220 poor and deprived children belonging to both rural and urban areas under Gadadhar Abhyudaya Prakalpa (Integrated Child Development programme).
In the field of education, 5137 students were benefited through its computer training centre at Quinton Road. Moreover the Shillong Centre of the Ramakrishna Mission was conferred with the Youth and Education Award by Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures and Christ School International in recognition of its excellent service in the Northeast.
The award was received by Swami Achyuteshananda, from K.K. Paul, the then Governor of Meghalaya. This was appreciated in the 106th Annual General Meeting of the Ramakrishna Mission, held at Belur Math, HQ, Ramakrishna Mission on December 27.
Moreover, Ramakrishna Mission undertook several relief and rehabilitation programmes and welfare initiatives in different parts of the country during the year involving a total expenditure of Rs.6.34 crore, benefitting 1.18 lakh families.
The Mission also spent Rs.14.74 crore through welfare works by way of providing scholarships to poor students, pecuniary help to the old, sick and destitute.
Medical service was rendered to more than 81.62 lakh people through its 10 hospitals, 74 dispensaries, 44 mobile medical unit and 963 medical camps with an expenditure of Rs.167.08 crore. Mission spent a sum of Rs.267 crore on its educational works involving 3.18 lakh students. It also spent an amount of Rs.11.74 crore for rural and tribal development projects benefitting 16.96 lakh rural people.
UNESCO tie up
The Ramakrishna Mission said that its tie-up with UNESCO was conveyed during the meeting held at Belur Math.
UNESCO has established an official partnership with the Ramakrishna Mission in the areas of intercultural dialogue, social cohesion and an initiative for culture of peace and non-violence for a period of six years.
