‘No intention to oust PN Syiem’

SHILLONG: Mawlai MDC PT Sawkmie has refuted allegations by KHNAM working president and Jaiaw MDC, Adelbert Nongrum that he wanted to unseat KHADC CEM, P.N. Syiem. According to Sawkmie, Nongrum’s allegation was aimed at creating misunderstanding between him and Syiem and to lessen people’s support for him. “Syiem is a trusted friend and such attempts (to bring about differences) will not make any difference,” Sawkmie asserted. It may be mentioned that Nongrum had recently claimed that the KHNAM supported the ruling PDF in the District Council to thwart any attempt by Sawkmie to oust Syiem. Claiming that efforts are on to replace the current CEM, Nongrum said that such a move will be against the interest of the District Council since Syiem is somebody who can take on the Chief Minister head on.
