Suicide turns out to be case of strangulation

SHILLONG: The ‘suicide’ of a woman in West Garo Hills by burning herself as per the version of her relative, has turned out to be a case of strangulation as per the post mortem report.
According to police, one Md. Jiaul Islam of Banglakata village in West Garo Hills lodged a complaint that on November 1 last, his sister Laily Begum committed suicide by burning herself. After observing necessary formalities, the cadaver was handed over to the relatives by the police.
However, post mortem examination report indicated that the cause of death was asphyxia due to ligature strangulation.
